Croat Coin, the Catalan cryptocurrency

At TDB, we like to interview Catalans with unique and original projects, and today’s project is very technological: we will talk about the Catalan cryptocurrency Croat Coin. We will do it in as plain a language as possible so that the uninitiated can understand it. This interview is not investment advice but a look at this very curious and interesting project.

The Croat Coin is more than a cryptocurrency; it is a cryptographic tribute to an ancient Catalan currency that circulated for almost 500 years, which we have already discussed in Tocat del Bolet. The original Croat, created in 1285 by Peter II, was a silver coin, and now, in its digital version, its legend continues. A group of Catalans developed the CROAT cryptocurrency to create a well-established tool in the digital world. It should be noted that this community initiative is not linked to any official institution, which, like other cryptocurrencies, gives it an independent character.

The project is characterized by its deep social commitment: part of the funds are destined for noble causes such as the fight against inequality and social exclusion. Thus, CROAT represents a technological innovation and a hope for a fairer and more equitable future. Now that the crypto world has gained momentum, we ask the creators of the Catalan cryptocurrency to tell us what this Croat Coin and the Croat Community are about without excessive technicalities so that we can all understand it better.

Interview with the creators of Croat Coin:

I’m sure you’ve been asked this question many times, but it’s almost obligatory: How and when did the idea of creating a Catalan cryptocurrency come about? Who were the creators?

The creators were a group of volunteer engineers who, for reasons of exclusivity with their jobs, want to remain anonymous. Croat Coin is in the second generation of volunteer developers

How would you explain the Croat coin to a person who has not been initiated into cryptocurrencies?

First of all, Croat Coin is not a typical cryptocurrency; it has a spirit of social currency or a bridge between social currencies. We have always wanted it to be a currency of the people and not a tool for speculation.

⛃⛂⛁⛀

What is the purpose of Croat Coins?

Croat Coin aims to be a tool for Catalans, an alternative resource for empowerment, and a tool for the country.

⛃⛂⛁⛀

How has the journey of the Croat Coin been since its inception?

When it emerged in 2017, actions were taken with the croar coin ambassador’s help to make it public. We have participated in the editions of BxCat and have been to different Exchanges, but always in a controlled way, more so that a real economic value is recognized than for speculative reasons; a pilot experience was also carried out with shops, and today, someone still maintains it as a tool for exchange for consumer products, such as “L’abella Republicana” (The Republican Bee).

⛃⛂⛁⛀

Could the delineation or identification of the Croat Coin within a specific country or territory restrict its growth?

We believe that this has not limited Croat’s growth; in fact, it has been mined by miners from all over the world.

⛃⛂⛁⛀

Croat Coin has a community behind it. Can you tell us what it consists of and how many people are involved? What can be done to promote and popularize Croat Coin?

We are not an association, we are supporters of Croat Coin, willing to believe in what Croat Coin means and we do not know exactly how many people are involved. What can be done to spread and popularize Croat Coin? Believing in the project, investing in its dissemination and maintenance, is a matter of Catalans taking it as our own resource that is available to them.

Let’s say I want to acquire Croat coins. How can I do it? If I buy them, where can I store them? Is the currency listed on an Exchange? What is the price of a Croat Coin right now?

You can download different wallets from our Webhttps://croat.cat, the “safe” for PCP. It is a P2P the most recommended way to store Croats, and you can carry the wallet on your mobile (the money in your pocket). Also, if you have a store and want to sell in Croats, you have a POS terminal to which you can associate a wallet and give your employees to carry out operations in your business’s cash registers.

Let’s take a step forward with a slightly more technical question: what is Croat mining, and what do you need to do to mine it?

Croat is not a by-product of Ethereum, or any derivative; it is an algorithm of its own, with its own blockchain, technologically speaking, brother to Monero, or others in this family, such as Bitcoin. It is an independent product with which everyone can operate if they want and create their own elements, pools, wallets, platforms, etc.., but it has a community that maintains a non-profit base so that it always works. To mine, you only need a laptop or a desktop computer; you can also mine with more professional tools; it depends on the interests of each one.

Self-question [Ask yourself a question you would like to be asked and answer it] Tell me about the people’s fear of cryptocurrency taxation

Obviously, cryptocurrencies are increasingly regulated, and precisely one of the characteristics of Croat Coin, the anonymity of its transactions, does not make it popular to be included in regulated European or international markets such as Coinbase or Binance; we know it, but this has not been the goal: people must know that if they make large operations, they must comply with the law,  but Croat Coin is designed for small economies; artisans, producers of our land, the circular economy, and to be a reinforcement where the euro economy, or the macroeconomics, does not cover. Croat Coin is a complementary alternative economy.
